Our approach to training
Many companies offer ‘one size fits all' packages. We consider stress, for example, to be a highly personalised phenomenon, particular to individuals, their situation and environments. There are such a huge range of possible interventions and skills which fall under the umbrella of ‘stress management' that it is vital for any training course, whether for groups or individuals, to be carefully structured, composed and delivered to fit the people involved. All Uncommon Knowledge training packages are composed for the individual customer. When learning ‘soft skills' it is imperative that the style, content and level of training is geared to the group being trained. All trainers at Uncommon Knowledge have extensive individual coaching experience. This gives us a unique insight into human performance, communication, stress management and the other ‘soft skills' that make a high-performing person.
If it’s an ongoing effort, people won’t do it.
All too often, people go on training courses, come away ‘fired up' to make changes and then realise weeks later that nothing has happened. At Uncommon Knowledge, we aim to deliver training in a way that makes it easy to incorporate information and techniques into everyday life.
Trainer: delegate ratios, in addition to the correct content and delivery, group members must be able to command the trainers' attention long enough for understanding and response to take place. Due to the nature of many questions, this can often take more than the typical '5 seconds' per answer. In addition, individual’s own requirements are usually best addressed on a 1:1 basis. For these reasons, we recommend that all packages are delivered by two trainers, unless the group size is under 5. For group sizes of over 15, we suggest one extra facilitator for every 5 people.
Larger groups: For large groups, seminar-style training is available, although this entails a less practical and more ‘chalk and talk' style presentation. Depending on the topic, we are able to convey much of the essential information in this way. However it is clear from our experience that for delegates to really learn ‘soft skills' effectively, smaller groups and the exercises that they make possible are essential.
After the Course: Follow ups in the form of mail, email or refresher sessions can be scheduled after the course. This gives delegates a chance to ask questions once they have been able to try new skills in context.
Workshops For 5 to 35 delegates. Interactive, practical training with large and small group exercises. The emphasis is strongly on practical skills.
Seminars For 35+ delegates. More 'chalk and talk' with large group exercises.
